With winter approaching municipalities across Simcoe County are reminding people that parking vehicles on streets, road allowances, sidewalks and municipal parking lots is prohibited during specific dates and times to allow for snow removal.
Each municipality has their own regulations, so you are encouraged to check your local website for the specifics in your area.
For instance, the Clearview Township restricts on-street parking between the hours of 1 and 6 a.m. during the winter season from Nov. 1 to April 14. Any vehicles in violation may be issued a parking ticket and towed away, at the owner’s expense. In addition, the municipality or its employees will not be responsible for any damage done to vehicles parked or abandoned on any street, road allowance, sidewalk or municipal parking lot by the township winter maintenance operations.
Residents are also reminded that it is illegal to deposit (shovel or blow) snow onto roads, sidewalks or parking lots under jurisdiction of Clearview Township. Issues relating to the obstruction of traffic or damage to snow removal equipment may be subject to charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
In the City of Barrie, from Dec. 1 through March 31, on-street parking is not permitted from 3–6 a.m. within the Downtown BIA and on other city streets from 12:01–7 a.m. for Winter Control operations.
