Danny Vandervoort will be looking for a fresh start with a new team.
The Barrie native and former third overall pick in the Canadian Football League (CFL) Draft has been signed by the Edmonton Eskimos.
Vandervoort was a star in high school and club football, suiting up for the Bear Creek Kodiaks and the Huronia Stallions, respectively, where he was a wide receiver, punter, kick returner and defensive back.
He focused on the former in university as a critical part of the McMaster Marauders offence, being named the CIS (now Usports) Rookie of the Year back in 2013.
Vandervoort was drafted in 2017 by the B.C. Lions, but saw limited action with the team during his two years on the roster.
He’ll join former Marauders teammate Mark Mackie on the squad, which plays in Hamilton on Friday night.
