Thunderhoops Basketball Shooting Camp, Barrie’s oldest and biggest basketball camp, still has room on the court those wanting to take part in the first three weeks of their popular July day .
Open to boys and girls, from Grade 3 to 9, therecamp are still openings for the day camp for Week 1 (July 1-5), Week 2 (July 8-12) and Week 3 (July 15-19). Camp is held at the East Bayfield Recreation Centre.
In its 26 year of operation, Thunderhoops has taught over 9,000 campers and has sold out the last 15 years in a row. One of the province’s largest hoops camps, Thunderhoops, has grown from a one-week camp of 60 participants to accommodating some 600 kids over three weeks.
Run by co-directors Paul Hopper, who has been involved in basketball for over 39 years and Marty McCrone, who has more over 43 years of hoops experience, the camp’s focus is on an efficient method of teaching kids how to shoot and how to put themselves in position to score.
Camp features include a written evaluation, guest instructors, daily skills contest and prizes, full court games, a referee clinic and personalized attention and instruction. Each camper receives a Thunderhoops sponsor package, a Thunderhoops basketball, T-shirt, team picture, Gatorade and a cold drink at lunch.
Cost for the one-week camp is $295 or a $100 deposit with the balance due on June 6. There is a family discount (two or more campers) or multiple week discount (same camper for more than one week) for $270 per week. A $50 administration feel will be charged for cancellation.
