Georgian College has confirmed that a strike this coming Monday Oct. 16 is possible as they struggle to negotiate terms of a new contract. The faculty at Ontario’s 24 colleges have given official notice of the impending strike while the college prepares to deal with this as a possible outcome.
Students will be directly affected by a strike as full and part-time classes, and a number of clinical and field placements internships will be cancelled. Offices at the college will remain open, offering non-academic services for students. The college assures that the school year will be completed, regardless.
“Georgian recognizes the uncertainty is stressful for students and families. Whatever happens, students will have the opportunity to complete their year. No Ontario college student has ever lost a year because of a strike,” reads a statement on their website.
