In recognition of Seniors’ Month, seniors 65+ can ride Barrie Transit for free during the month of June. Free transit for seniors during the month of June was approved by Council as part of the Barrie Transit Fare Strategy.
“We’re really pleased to offer free transit for seniors during the month of June,” said Brent Forsyth, director of transit. “We hope this promotion will get more seniors to try transit and discover it as a great transportation option throughout the year.”
To help seniors learn the transit system, the City will hold free Barrie Transit Training sessions for older adults on the following days:
- Tuesday, June 4, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Parkview 55+ Centre
- Friday, June 14, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Allandale Rec Centre
- Monday, June 17, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Parkview 55+ Centre
- Wednesday, June 26, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Allandale Rec Centre
Transit staff are also consulting seniors on whether free transit during the month of June is preferred over an alternative promotion such as one free day each week, year round. Seniors can provide feedback by taking a brief survey via www.barrie.ca/Transit.
