On April 7 and 8, young scientists in Grades 4 to 12 competed in the Simcoe County Regional Science and Technology Fair, which was held at Bear Creek Secondary School.

This year, Simcoe County District School Board students were awarded a total of 76 awards, including two grand awards: Best of Human and Health Sciences: Yama Kamal of Bear Creek Secondary School “The Science Behind the Shot: The Best Angle to Shoot a Basketball” and Best of Earth and Environmental Sciences: Sara Shobeir and Cyrus Shobeir of Ferndale Woods Elementary School “Do You Need a Water Filter?”

Two SCDSB junior competitors have qualified to compete as members of Team Simcoe and will travel to Regina for the Canada-Wide Science Fair taking place in May: Eve Gilbert of Mountain View Elementary School with “Independence Plus”; and Emily Goodson of Cookstown Central Public School with “Re-Freezing the Polar Ice Caps.”
