RVH Auxiliary honours its own

Every year the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) Auxiliary honours deserving members at an annual Auxiliary Awards celebration.

This is a very special ceremony and an opportunity to thank RVH’s 750-strong volunteer force who not only lend a second set of hands throughout the health centre but also tirelessly fundraise for new programs and equipment at RVH.

At this year’s ceremony, Marlene Birnie was recognized for her remarkable 45 years of volunteer service and Ella Brennan and Daphne Watton for 40 years of service.

“At RVH we have one of the largest and most dedicated Auxiliaries in the country,” says Janice Skot, RVH president and CEO. “Year after year, they tirelessly fundraise for new services and equipment at RVH and we couldn’t be more thankful for their dedication and belief in RVH. This ceremony recognizes the Auxiliary members for the mark they leave on every square foot of this health centre. Simply put, we couldn’t do what we do without their invaluable contributions.”

At the event, the recipient of the 2019 Award of Distinction was announced. This is the highest award the Auxiliary has established to acknowledge and recognize the significant contributions of a volunteer who is an Auxiliary Life Member. This award is not presented every year, but only when the Awards Committee deems it appropriate. This year the winner of the Award of Distinction was Betty Fyshe who has been a volunteer since 2000 and also served as the Auxiliary President.

Other years of service recipients were Helen Thompson, Marjorie McLeod, Patricia McLeod – 30 years; Nancy Brownlie, Helen Cooper, Bernice Grant, Randy Harradine, Jean McGinley, Bev Neely, Jean Patchett, Monika Zimmerman – 25 years of service.

The Auxiliary also awarded Life Memberships, Outstanding Service Awards and Awards of Merit.

Life Memberships – awarded to those who model RVH’s values, have demonstrated consistent dedication to the Auxiliary and volunteering, have taken on extra responsibilities and have previously won the Outstanding Service Award:  Brenda Clayton, Marjan Deller, Elaine Hines, Brian Pope, David Sands

The RVH Auxiliary is currently working to fulfill a $2 million pledge in support of advanced cardiac care and child and youth mental health services at RVH.
