Youth homelessness in Orillia public forum on Oct. 2

The Orillia Youth Opportunities Committee, in collaboration with the Simcoe County District School Board and Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, are inviting residents to attend a public forum to discuss options for addressing the issue of youth homelessness in the community.

Experts will detail how other communities use shelter diversion, emergency shelters and transitional housing to combat the problem. Dr. Stephen Gaetz, Canadian Observatory on Homelessness professor and director, will be the keynote speaker.

Be part of the discussion and share your voice to assist the Help Orillia Youth Opportunities Committee determine what recommendations it should make to Orillia city council.

What: Orillia Youth Opportunities Committee public forum on youth homelessness

When: Oct. 2, 11:45 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Where: Orillia Secondary School, 250 Collegiate Dr. (in the cafeteria).

Note: parking is limited at the high school and overflow parking has been offered by Emmanuel Baptist Church, a short walking distance from the school.
