A team of 13 dedicated volunteer committee members met this week to begin preparations for the area’s 21st Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure event. The run is scheduled for October 6 at 8 a.m. at Heritage Park in Barrie.
More than 1,000 lparticipants will gather to raise over $200,000 in support of essential breast cancer initiatives, including access to free wigs and transportation to and from appointments.
“Every day, more than 70 Canadians will hear the words ‘you have breast cancer’”, said Shelley Irwin, CIBC Run for the Cure Volunteer Co-Chair. “Once again, we have a strong committee, and together, we look forward to putting on another great event and helping generous community donors to raise much needed funds to help diagnose, treat and support those diagnosed with breast cancer.”
The CIBC Run for the Cure is a 1 km or 5 km run or walk. Each year, over 80,000 participants take part in close to 60 events across the country, making the CIBC Run for the Cure the largest single-day, volunteer-led event in Canada.
