The Town of Bradford/West Gwillimbury would like to hear from the community about what to do with their property located at 125 Simcoe Road. Decisions in regard to the Bradford and District Memorial Community Centre could potentially go one of three different ways.
The town may consider using it as a comprehensive recreation centre and retaining the lands for recreational purposes. That would involve refurbishing or redeveloping the community centre buildings and curling rinks and potentially provide greater services to town functions and activities.
A second possibility would be to make it into a community hub. That would likely see the building turned into a town hall, with redevelopment occurring on the land, save for the parts that cannot be changed due to environmental restrictions. The building would provide multi-use space for public, social and art-related purposes. With this consideration, the curling rinks would either be integrated or an alternative option would be explored.
A third option would be a mixed commercial and residential space. There could be ground-floor commercial uses with residential units above. That would require having the community centre, as well as the curling rinks, relocated and redeveloped elsewhere within the town.
There will be a public open house on a date yet to be determined. In the meantime, the town is welcoming feedback from the general public.
