New student trustee to be commissioned at school board meeting

St. Dominic Catholic Secondary School (955 Cedar Lane) at Bracebridge will host the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) first meeting of the 2018-19 school year on Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.

The meeting will begin with a celebration of mass at the school chapel, presided by Father Peter Selvaraj, pastor of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. There will also be a commissioning of the board’s new student trustee, Anna Szumska, who is currently a Grade 12 student at St. Dominic’s.

Anna was elected by the school board student senate and began her term as student trustee-elect alongside McKenna McCoy, student trustee for the 2017-18 school year. Anna’s term will run through July 31, 2019.

The board meeting will follow at the school library. All board meetings are open to the public (with the exception of private sessions) and agendas are posted on the website (smcdsb.on.ca) in advance.
