Bicycle lanes will be added to four more streets in the Town of Innisfil.
Installation of the routes will begin this week along Anna Maria Ave., Jans Blvd., Leslie Dr. and Webster Blvd. It’s expected the road marking and other installations will be completed by October 7 with the work being carried out overnight between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
The increased use of bicycle lanes follows the Town’s master plan that indicated residents want an increase in the forms of active transportation, ones that don’t rely on cars. Already the Town has bike lanes or multi-use trails on Innisfil Beach Rd., St. Johns Rd., Maple Rd. and Belle Aire Beach Rd.
Town officials believe bicycle lanes allow residents to become more active while reducing the environmental impacts of motorized vehicles. As well, by having clearly defined lanes for cyclists, research shows that it makes for safer conditions for all who use the roads.
As part of the plan, Innisfil will prohibit parking in all bike lane and multi-use trails resulting in the loss of some street parking.
