The Georgian Grizzlies, men’s and women’s volleyball teams, played some tournament games in early January ahead of a busy second half of the season.
The men’s squad took part in the Mohawk Invitational at Hamilton, starting things off on Jan. 5 with a straight-sets victory over the host Mountaineers. From there, the Grizzlies luck would run out, as they fell twice on Jan. 6, first to the St. Clair Saints, then to the Redeemer Royals, both in a trio of sets.
Meanwhile, the women’s team was in Oshawa at the Durham Invitational, winning two of their five games. After dropping their Jan. 5 matches to the Canadian Mennonite Blazers and Mohawk, Georgian bounced back on Jan. 6, edging the Seneca Sting in five sets. The Grizzlies lost to Sherbrooke University later that afternoon, but finished up strong on Jan. 7, defeating the Algonquin Thunder 3-1.
The Georgian men’s team, currently second in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Assocation rankings, resumes regular season play on Jan. 13, when they visit the Fleming Knights.
The women’s squad, which sits in a three-way tie for third in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association east division, has their first game back on Jan. 19 at home against Seneca.
