May Court Club Helps Community

The May Court Club of Barrie gave a major boost to over a dozen local organizations with a cheque presentation May 14.

The club raises funds are through it May Court Shop – Ladies Consignment Clothing and the Homes For The Holidays tour which this year will be held on Nov 16-17, 2019. Each year, they donate an average of $100,000 to help meet a variety of needs in the community.

“The May Court Club of Barrie has raised and donated over $2,500,000.00 to the community since 1970 – WOW!,” said Marianne Schall, one of 80 active members in the club.

The club and a Request Review Committee award funds for specific projects which help children, men, women, and seniors in the community. Cheques totaling $55,000 were presented to 14 different local charities: Barrie Literacy Council,  CNIB – Barrie, David Busby Centre, Deaf Access Simcoe,  Down Syndrome Association of Simcoe County,  Epilepsy Simcoe County, Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka, Habitat For Humanity, LOFT Community Services (Leap Of Faith Together),  Redwood Park Communities – United House,  Samaritan House Community Ministries Simcoe County,   Simcoe Community Services Foundation, South Shores Alternative Secondary School, and the Women’s and Children’s Shelter of Barrie.

In addition, the club runs a Nutrition Program ($15,000) that goes to support 29 Public and Catholic schools by providing snacks for kids throughout the school year. There is also a Scholarship Awards Program ($20,000) and a ‘Help For Individuals’ program via case workers, the I.O.O.F, Grove Park, Meals on Wheels, EarlyOn Child and Family Centre.
