Aaron Luchuk’s milestone night helped power the Barrie Colts to a 6-2 victory over the Saginaw Spirit in Ontario Hockey League (OHL) action Jan. 18 at the Barrie Molson Centre.
The overage player, who was acquired from the Windsor Spitfires in mid-December, had a goal and three assists en route to hitting a trio of OHL milestones. The Ottawa Senators prospect recorded his 100th career goal, his 100th career assist and his 200th career point.
The win moved Barrie (25-15-2-1) into a first place tie with the Niagara IceDogs atop the Central Division standings.
The Colts got all the offence they needed with a four-goal outburst in a little more than five minutes in the opening period. The line of Luchuk between Russian imports Andrei Svechnikov and Dmitry Sokolov did most of the damage on the night, combining for four goals and eight points.
Sokolov, with a pair, Svechnikov and Ben Hawerchuk also scored for the Colts, who hit the road Jan. 19 to take on the Mississauga Steelheads.
Blade Jenkins and Ryan Stepien scored for Saginaw (22-17-3-0).
