Connor Laronde is taking the next step at York University.
The former Eastview Wildcat and Georgian Grizzly has committed to play for the York Lions men’s basketball team in the upcoming 2019-20 season.
Laronde began his high-school career at Eastview, but went from there to the Athlete Institute in Orangeville, where he graduated in 2015 alongside players like Jamal Murray of the Denver Nuggets.
He came back home to suit up for the Grizzlies, where Laronde put up impressive numbers over four seasons, culminating in an Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) consolation championship, the best finish in Georgian’s history.
The Barrie Royals graduate and former OCAA all-star will now take the floor for York as one of three Simcoe County natives on the Lions squad, joining Christian D’Alessandro of Tottenham and Innisfil’s M.J. Forbes.
York assistant coach Andrew Broeren is another connection to Georgian, where he was the bench boss of the women’s team for three seasons.
Laronde and the Lions will open up their season in the fall.
