Toronto singer-songwriter Jadea Kelly released a new EP of songs from an award-winning documentary, Met While Incarcerated.
The soundtrack features a mix of new original songs, previously released music and a haunting cover of “Amazing Grace”. New songs include “Bad Like Me” (featuring Robby Hecht), “Make Peace With It” (featuring Garrison Starr). Previously released songs are “Beauty” and “Mercy”. The EP was released through Darth Jadea Music with digital distribution by Tone Tree Music.
“Met While Incarcerated” is defined as a person who met their partner/spouse after incarceration or criminal offense. It challenges societal stereotypes and our understanding of crime, punishment, good and evil, forgiveness, love, and redemption.
“MWI illuminates an uncomfortable social topic but also the lives of real people. Looking past the incarceration charges, I do see genuine love and healing between the featured couples. Very eye-opening,” Kelly said.
The film, directed by Catherine Legge, premiered at the LA Femme Film Festival in Los Angeles last October, at the Hamilton Film Festival in November, and had its broadcast premiere on March 31 on the Documentary Channel.
MWI Soundtrack EP has already received ‘Best Score & Music’ accolade from the Hollywood International Independent Documentary Awards.
Songs from the album have been featured on Spotify’s “Folk & Friends”; on Apple Music’s Singer-Songwriter Hot Track Feature, Americana Feature, Country Music ‘Speakin Easy’, and “Acoustic Chill” playlist; and Amazon’s “Fresh Folk & Americana” playlist.
