Lovers of video games new and old, those who proudly count themselves among the gaming community and anyone who is interested in technology should mark their calendars for the second annual Game On. On Sept. 22, the City of Barrie is partnering with BPL Comic Con to present a day filled with video games and gaming fun at Five Points Theatre.

The theatre will be set up with displays, booths and hands on exhibits where you can re-live the retro video games from your childhood and also try out some exciting new virtual reality experiences. Vendors will be on site showcasing video games, artwork, technology and more.

The event has also partnered with local businesses and organizations involved in game development, technology and art who are making contributions to the sector in Barrie. Local game developers will be on hand to meet and learn what it takes to create your own video game.

Registered participants will get a chance to take part in video game competitions throughout the day including a Smash Bros. 64 competition. Prizes for winners will be announced on the day of the event.

The all-ages show also includes events at city hall and the downtown branch of the Barrie Public Library.

At city hall, in the rotunda, Medieval Swordplay Canada and BRIX will lead an immersive, real-life, Fortnite battle experience, while fans of all ages are encouraged to check out the family friendly ComicCon taking place at the library.

Everyone is invited to help celebrate Barrie’s tech community on Sept. 22.
