Innovative approach to supportive housing officially opens

The County of Simcoe, in partnership with Redwood Park Communities, the David Busby Centre and the City of Barrie, will formally celebrate the grand opening of Lucy’s Place on October 10, 2019 at 10 a.m.

Lucy’s Place is an 18-unit supportive housing complex that was converted from an old motel and adjacent house. The property was purchased in 2017 by the County of Simcoe, thanks in part to the provincial Home for Good (HFG) funding program, which is aimed at assisting those who are chronically homeless in securing and maintaining housing with the appropriate supports. Additional funding was provided by the County of Simcoe through the Social Housing Reserve Fund and by the City of Barrie through a grant from the 2018 Community Improvement Plan. Through a leasing agreement, Redwood Park Communities renovated and continues to operate the facility. Through a support service agreement, David Busby Centre staff are onsite 24/7 to provide a supportive housing program to the residents.
