Infrastructure improvements underway across the city

Starting May 6, Barrie residents will see infrastructure improvements happening across the city. The work was approved as part of the Capital Plan, which focused on roads and growth and is consistent with council’s strategic plan to improve transportation networks.

Bayfield Street (Coulter Street to Cundles Road) May 6 to June 8

The project includes the removal of the existing concrete road surface and repaving of Bayfield Street from Coulter Street to Cundles Road. All work will be completed at night, with lane restrictions occurring between 9 p.m. and 6 am. All roads will remain open to through traffic during construction, although lane closures and restrictions can be expected in order to accommodate construction activities. The work is expected to be completed by June 8.

Mapleview Drive East (Yonge Street to Prince William Way) May 7 to 9

Mapleview Drive East from Yonge Street to Prince William Way will be closed for the construction of a transmission watermain at the intersection of Royal Jubilee Drive and Mapleview Drive East, to extend potable water and fire protection to the secondary lands in the south of the city. The detour route will be along Lockhart Road and Big Bay Point Road. Barrie Transit will detour Route 4 around this road closure and continue to provide service from Prince William Way to the Barrie South Go Station.

Rail Crossing at Burton Avenue/Yonge Street at Garden Drive May 8 to 9

The closure is required to allow staff from Cando Rail Service (operators of the Barrie Collingwood Railway) to repair the railway crossing. Detour routes will be in place. Access to businesses in the area will be maintained throughout the duration of the work. Barrie Transit Routes 4 and 8 will be impacted.
