Matthews House Hospice annual “Hike for Hospice” was a success this year, surpassing the set goal of $100,000. Thirty-three teams – more than 300 hikers – participated with many wearing t-shirts or dressing in themes to honour their loved ones.

The Unsung Heroes team for raised close to $10,000 – the most by a team – and Glen Kindree raised the most as an individual – more than $3,000.

Hike for Matthews House Hospice, now in its seventh year, is the organizations’ first big fundraiser of the year. Its followed by the annual golf tournament on Sept. 12 and the annual gala on Sept. 28, with this years’ theme “An Evening in Paris.”

Matthews House Hospice is nearing completion of its Centre of Excellence for end of life/palliative care to assist community members for all of South Simcoe. As a palliative care hub, the new facility will combine both community and residential care, support groups for residents and families including education regarding end of life/palliative care.
