GTA Entertainment: Third time’s a charm for industry veteran and novelist, John Meyer

John Meyer, the industry veteran and head writer at ET Canada since 2005, released his third novel Nov. 17, Shadows, Shells, and Spain, that he was inspired to write while researching his second in Camino de Santiago.

“Shadows, Shells, and Spain was first conceived while I was visiting the town of Estella, Spain during the research stage of my second book, Bulls, Bands, and London. Exploring the town, I saw many hikers marching through Estella with their gigantic backpacks and their walking sticks. What was going on? Who were these people?” said Meyer.

His first book, Bullets, Butterflies, and Italy earned him the November Best Book accolade from Chatelaine magazine after it was released in 2011.  All three novels were written as fictional tales that Meyer based on his many travels across Europe, and infused into them a love story with an exhilarating twist.

His travels also inspired him to bring home to Toronto the nomadic lifestyle he adopted abroad where he has lived in weekly Airbnb rentals for over two years.

“Over the course of two years, I stayed in over 30 houses, apartments, condos, and basement suites (and even saved money)! And during all that time, I wrote the first and second drafts of my new book. I guess the nomadic life was inspiring to me and I didn’t want to give it up,” said Meyer.

Time will tell if his local travels served as inspiration for an impending fourth novel…
