The third annual Invictus Games opened this past weekend to much fanfare and prestige with Prime Minister Trudeau kicking things off with an official reception Friday night welcoming Team Ukraine. It is the eastern European country’s first foray into the games that are hosting over 500 participants from 17 countries.
Games patron and founder, Prince Harry, joined Trudeau at the official opening ceremony held at the Air Canada Centre where the PM addressed the crowd of athletes, celebrities, dignitaries, celebrities and fans. Also in attendance at the opening ceremony were Melania Trump – First Lady of the United States, Harjit Sajjan – Minister of National Defence, Kathleen Wynne – Premiere of Ontario, and Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau.
Sarah McLachlan, Alessia Cara, The Tenors, Laura Wright, La Bottine Souriante and Mike Myers all took the stage during the opening ceremony. The games will run from Sept. 23 – 30 and close with an official ceremony featuring Bryan Adams, Bruce Springsteen, Bachman & Turner, Coeur de Pirate and Kelly Clarkson.
