It didn’t happen until their third tournament, but the Georgian College Grizzlies finally took the cake.
Georgian’s extramural cricket team won the Seneca Invitational event last month, posting a 4-0 record en route to the title. The Grizzlies defeated the host Seneca Sting 37-26 before edging Humber North 53-51, thanks in large part to the defensive effort of Sukhpreet Singh. In their next game, the Grizzlies won and advanced on their last ball, as batsman Gurpartap Singh scored two runs to push Georgian past Centennial, 41-40.
That brought Georgian to the finals, where they would defeat Sheridan 46-40 as a pair of its youngest players, rookie Gursimran Singh and 17-year old Gagan Singh, stepped up in the big game. The victory was Georgian’s first Ontario Collegiate Recreation championship in cricket since 2013.
Georgian will be looking to continue the trend in its next competition at the University of Toronto-Mississauga on March 2.
