Gerry Marshall, Warden of Simcoe County and mayor of Penetanguishene has been named the provincial liberal candidate for Simcoe North in the upcoming general election. His jump from regional to provincial politics was confirmed at the nomination meeting held Oct. 22 at Midland Library in Midland.
Marshall will run for the seat currently held by Patrick Brown, leader of the Progressive Conservative party of Ontario. He will not have to battle Brown who will be vying for a seat in the newly established riding of Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte in 2018.
Many municipal and provincial supporters came out to support Marshall at the nomination meeting, including Eleanor McMahon, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport; Ann Hoggarth, MPP Barrie and Dave Ritchie, deputy mayor of Tay Township.
