It was quite the debut for Rachel Rier.
The freshman golfer for the Georgian Grizzlies was victorious in her first-ever Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) event last weekend, as Rier won the Fanshawe Invitational, which took place at the FireRock Golf Club just outside of London.
Rier took home the individual title, shooting a 78 to edge out Humber’s Hayley McCallum by two strokes.
The men’s side saw a couple of strong finishes for Grizzlies, with Barrie native Jeff Ash posting a 76 for a top-five finish.
Teammates Austin Morrison and Anthony Gognavec each finished just a few strokes behind, putting up rounds of 78 and 80, respectively.
The men’s and women’s teams won’t have to travel very far for their next two events.
On Wednesday, they will compete in the Lakehead-Orillia Invitational at Hawk Ridge Golf Club in Severn.
Thursday will see Georgian host its own event, as it welcomes competitors to Shanty Bay’s Heritage Hills Golf Club.
