Have you ever wondered what going to college feels like? From now until June 22, Georgian College is offering an opportunity to be a Student for a Day at the Barrie Campus. This is a new initiative, created to ease the transition to post-secondary education.
Those interested in participating need to pre-register and pick from a selection of classes and dates. Each participant is paired with a current Georgian student who walks them to class, sits with them through class and then answers any questions over coffee. Campus tours are optional. Visits take between one and three hours.
“As a recruitment specialist, I was often asked what college classes are like,” explained Kailey Hawkins, Georgian recruitment interim manager. “This will give future students the opportunity to experience Georgian student life, first hand, so they can start imagining themselves in this learning environment.”
Student for a Day class options are in four academic areas: business and management; engineering and environmental technologies; health, wellness and sciences; and hospitality, tourism and recreation. Classes take place on specific dates and times from Monday to Friday between 8:45 a.m. and 7 p.m. Space is limited for each time slot, and registrations are first come, first served. The RSVP form and specific class details are found online.
