The top college teams in Ontario will have to go through Barrie for the title. Georgian College was selected to host the 2019 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Men’s Basketball Championship from Feb. 28-March 2. All games will be played at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.
The eight qualifying teams will compete in a three-day, knockout format to determine the provincial champion. As host, Georgian automatically earns a berth in the event.
“We are honoured to have been selected as the host for the men’s basketball championship,” said tournament chair Jeff Harris. “We are thrilled the showcase our tremendous facilities here at Georgian College and all that the city of Barrie has to offer.”
Most recently, Georgian College has hosted the OCAA Men’s Volleyball Championship in late February. Over the past two years, it has also housed the Golf Canada Canadian University/College Championships (2017), OCAA Badminton Championships (2017), and the OCAA Golf Championships (2016).
Ticket packages and sponsorship opportunities will be announced in the coming months. The Georgian Grizzlies tip off their 2018-19 season in October.
