Barrie police are looking for four youths after an investigation found the cause of a house fire on March 17 was arson.
Barrie Fire was called to an active structure fire at a house on Essa Road near Mapleton about 4 p.m. with reports of heavy smoke. Firefighters had the fire under control within 30 minutes, although crews stood by for hours putting out hot spots.
An investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office determined the cause of the fire was suspicious.
A parallel investigation began, police say, after obtaining evidence from the home which is believed to be a contributing factor to the fire. Four youths were observed running from the building when the fire broke out. Witnesses have provided investigators with several pictures.
Investigators are encouraging these youths to speak with their parents or guardians, obtain legal counsel and contact police.
