It was a long time coming for the St. Peter’s Panthers. The Barrie school swept the Monsignor Clair Cup, winning both the girls and boys championships in early December.
The girls’ squad had to come from behind to defeat the St. Joseph’s Jaguars in the semifinals before knocking off the defending champion, St. Joan of Arc Knights, 3-1 in the final.
The route for the boys’ team was no easier. They bounced the Jaguars 3-0, before having to come from behind late in the final against St. Joan of Arc to force a shootout. From there, the Panthers exorcised their demons, scoring the lone goal of the extra competition on their final shot to take the title by a 2-1 score.
It marks the first time the Panthers have earned both championships.
