Construction season is in full force and drivers need to be extra cautious, according to a Ministry of Transportation (MTO) report of 200 plus province-wide projects. These consist of highway expansions, bridge replacements and road maintenance which may result in road closures, reduced lanes, lane realignments and reduced speed limits.
The Ontario Provincial Police are reminding drivers of possible delays in these areas and to plan their routes accordingly. More important is being vigilant at all times, particularly in construction zones where inattention behind the wheel can lead to tragic consequences.
The OPP will be closely monitoring traffic in these areas and actively enforcing the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) that doubles speeding fines in construction zones where workers are present.
