Beach season ends for Barrie lifeguards

City of Barrie lifeguards are wrapping up another season.

As of Aug. 20, lifeguards will no longer be on duty at Barrie’s beaches as many of them get ready to head back to school in September. The buoy lines will remain in the water until after Labour Day on Sept. 3.

The City of Barrie and Canadian Red Cross once again teamed up to offer a personal flotation devices (PFD) loan service. So far this year, 243 people have participated in the program, which allows beach-goers to borrow PFDs for free at Centennial Beach and Johnson’s Beach to help ensure water safety.
