A seven-run offensive outburst in the sixth inning has the Barrie Baycats in command of their IBL quarter-final series against the Brantford Red Sox.
Kyle DeGrace belted a grand slam in the big inning as the Baycats pushed the Red Sox to the brink of playoff elimination with a come-from-behind 10-6 win, August 11th, at Arnold Anderson Stadium.
Barrie now leads the best-of-seven series, 3-0, and can wrap up it up with a win in Brantford on August 13th. Game time is 8 p.m.
Trailing 4-0, the Baycats finally got to Brantford starter Jesse Fishbaum (0-1) in the fifth inning when Jordan Castaldo drilled a two-run homer to cut the lead in half. The Red Sox came right back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning off of Barrie starter Adrian Salcedo (1-0) to restore the four-run lead, but it was all Baycats after that.
Castaldo would match DeGrace’s four RBIs on the night, going 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Starlin Rodriguez and Jeff Cowan added an RBI each for the Baycats, who would steal six bases on the night.
Salcedo would give up six runs, four earned, on nine hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out seven. Santos Arias, Darren Shred and Adam Hawes tossed an inning each of shutout relief to nail the win down.
Fishbaum would give up seven runs, two earned, on eight hits and seven walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out one. Chris Iltshishin led the way offensively for the Red Sox, finishing 4-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base.
