Simcoe County welcomed some high-level hockey into its rinks over this past week.
The St. Theresa’s Thunder hosted both the single-A/double-A, as well as the triple-A Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) for girls hockey, while the St. Joan of Arc Knights held the festivities for the boys triple-A OFSAA division.
St. Theresa’s welcomed 32 teams between the two divisions, including the St. Peter’s Panthers and Eastview Wildcats, over an entire week at rinks in Midland, Penetanguishene and Elmvale.
The Knights, who, like the Thunder, did not compete in the championship, hosted teams exclusively in Barrie, using both pads at the East Bayfield and Holly Community Centres. The Panthers competed in the boys event, as well as the Collingwood Fighting Owls.
Centre Wellington of Fergus took home the gold medal in the girls triple-A division, while Waterloo’s St. David Catholic won the single-A/double-A event.
In Barrie, Neil McNeil of Toronto were the victors of the boys triple-A OFSAA championship.
