Do you know someone you feel deserves to be appreciated for their talent  in the arts or for their support of the arts? The City of Barrie is now accepting nominations for the 10th annual Barrie Arts Awards, presented by TD.

The Barrie Arts Awards help recognize the vibrancy that the arts bring to the city and are an opportunity to show appreciation for talented individuals and generous supporters of the arts.

Nominations are in six different categories, including Artists without Barriers, Business Champion, Contributor to the Community, Emerging Artist, Excellence in the Arts and Most Promising Youth.

Nominations are also being accepted for a new Poet Laureate for the city. Chosen every four years, Barrie’s Poet Laureate acts as a literary ambassador and represents the city in poetry. Roles of the laureate include writing and publishing, performing, educating the public on the value of poetry and the literary arts, encouraging and celebrating other local poets and writers and promoting literacy in all age groups.

Barrie Arts Awards nominations must be submitted to the Creative Economy Department by Oct. 29 at 4:30 p.m.

Winners will receive a handcrafted award statuette, created by local artist Jeanette Luchese, which will be handed out at a gala event being held at the Barrie Country Club on Nov. 21.
