Too often we read about it or see it on the news. Another senior has gone missing. Wandered from home and now residents are asked to help find them. When Mandy Thompson went missing from her Barrie home on a frigid Feb. 17 morning in 2017, the hope was the 72-year-old, who had dementia and a history of wandering, would soon be found and returned to the safety of her family. Barrie Police gun amnesty reels in 40 weapons

Barrie Police Services received and rendered numerous weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition during a month-long gun amnesty. Through appointments made with the local police service they recovered 40 items during the month of April. A total of 19 rifles, 11 shotguns, 10 handguns and other guns such as replica and vintage weapons were collected. More than 1,500 pieces of ammunition were also attained. While a majority of the firearms surrendered to police will be destroyed, a number of them will be retained for historical, educational or training purposes.
