County of Simcoe rolls out LINX transit service

Hitch a ride with the LINX transit service and you’ve got Simcoe County covered. The new county bus service, which officially launched Aug. 7 and is part of a five-year rollout, will help make travelling between municipalities a lot simpler for local residents. The first route, which is free to riders from Aug. 7 to Sept. 4,  will see buses run north and south from Penetanguishene/Midland to Barrie, with stops in Wyebridge, Waverly, Elmvale and Midhurst. Suzuki helps Canada strike gold at U-18 worlds

Ryan Suzuki and Canada came up golden at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. The Barrie Colts forward recorded an assist to help guide Canada to a 6-2 win over Sweden in the gold-medal final of the world under-18 championship tournament, Aug. 12th, at Edmonton, Alta. Sasha Mutala and Alexis Lafreniere each scored twice, while Kirby Dach and Josh Williams added singles for Canada, which has now won the tournament 10 of the last 11 years. Predators sign Colts’ Magwood to entry-level deal

Zach Magwood made sure to leave a good impression at the Nashville Predators development camp. New charging stations a boost for Simcoe County

Simcoe County’s three newest electrical vehicle charging stations are charged up and ready to go. The new supercharger stations, paid for by funding from the provincial government, are located at the Simcoe County Museum; on 1151 Highway 26 at Midhurst; at the Washago carpool lot; on the corner of Highway 169 and Highway 11; and Station Park, at 212 Huron Street in Stayner. Colts take a gamble in CHL Import Draft

The Barrie Colts decided a little gamble was in the cards in the 2018 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft, held June 28. The Colts selected goaltender Maksim Zhukov from the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) with their first pick (41st overall) and then in the second round grabbed centre Matej Pekar from the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL with the 72nd overall selection. “Both players are looking at the NCAA route as their next option for hockey moving forward, so we have some work to do recruiting them,” said Colts general manager Jason Ford....
