It was a clean sweep by the Barrie Baycats.
Infielder Kevin Atkinson and pitcher Santos Arias were named the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) Players of the Week after some outstanding performances.
Atkinson earned the honours by hitting .600 (9-for-15) last week, including a pair of home runs, nine RBI’s and six runs.
His offensive output led the way for Barrie, which put up 37 runs in a three-game stretch.
The Vancouver native, who has been a fixture at the hot corner for the Baycats since 2012, leads the IBL with 33 RBI and trails only teammate Jordan Castaldo with eight home runs on the season.
Arias earned the pitcher’s weekly award after coming tantalizingly close to a no-hitter.
After the Dominican lost his perfect game bid with a walk in the seventh last week against the Brantford Red Sox, Arias managed to keep his opponent’s bats at bay entering the ninth inning.
He retired Aiden Muir to begin the inning, but Jacob Reid’s single broke up the no-hitter, as Arias ultimately gave up three hits and a pair of runs in the complete-game effort.
The Baycats enter the long weekend tied with the Kitchener Panthers for first place in the IBL.
