Former Ontario wrestler referees WWE card at Barrie Molson Centre

By Perry Lefko One of the biggest stars on the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) NXT card at the Barrie Molson Centre on Feb. 25 was one of the referees. Darryl Sharma, a former pro wrestler who performed under the name Hornet, received a hearty welcome from the crowd, many of whom had followed his career. Sharma had wrestled around the world and became a coach at Battle Arts Academy in Mississauga. Adams KDDP racing program semi-finalist

When Kendra Adams was just 13 years old, she received a race car as Christmas gift from her parents. Five years later, she’s laying the rubber down on a solid start to her racing career. Colts rally falls short

The Barrie Colts have lately had troubles reeling in the Mississauga Steelheads. Feb. 22, at the Barrie Molson Centre, was no different. Mathieu Foget recorded a goal and three assists and Michael Little scored twice and added an assist to power the Steelheads to a 7-4 win over the Colts, who have now dropped three-straight games to their Ontario Hockey League Central Division rivals. Regional study launched to support local agriculture and agri-food sector

Regional partners are undertaking a significant study of the area’s agriculture and agri-food sector and are seeking participation from local businesses to help develop regional and local action plans. The partnership group includes the County of Simcoe, Grey County, Bruce County, City of Barrie, City of Orillia, Georgian College and local business support agencies. The Agriculture and Agri-Food Value Chain Business Retention and Expansion (BR&E) Study will consist of an analysis of the current agriculture and agri-food business climate, based on standardized interviews with local businesses. Barrie increasing affordable housing options

The municipality of Barrie is more than halfway toward the goal of adding 840 affordable housing units in the city. The goal was set as part of the Affordable Housing Strategy, which was approved by council on Feb. 18, 2015. Last month, councillors were provided with a monitoring report, which details results and successes since the plan was put in place. Barrie has created 441 units since the strategy was launched.
