New Tecumseth looking at Beeton heritage designation

The Town of New Tecumseth has launched a Heritage Conservation District study for downtown Beeton. Its purpose: to see if designation is warranted, desirable, and supported by the community. The area under assessment is bound by Dayfoot Street to the west, Prospect Street to the north, Patterson Street to the east and Main Street to the south. In the study phase, a character analysis and evaluation of the study area will determine if the area functions as a cohesive whole, where the sum is more significant than individual parts and is considered appropriate for protection as a Heritage Conservation District....

Postmedia/Torstar local newspaper deal is cynical and destructive: CAJ

The message Postmedia and Torstar sent when they swapped community newspapers in Ontario was succinct: local journalism is not a priority at either company, said the Canadian Association of Journalists. “Postmedia and Torstar pretend to support thriving local news, and advocate for more journalism when they testify at parliamentary committees,” said CAJ President Nick Taylor-Vaisey. “But they’ve proven once again that cutting newspapers, and destroying media diversity in cities both big and small, is routine business.” Canada’s latest media swap saw Postmedia acquire 24 Torstar properties in exchange for 17 newspapers. Innisfil ticket campaign urges toys instead of cash

Until December 4, all parking fines in the Town of Innisfil can be paid with the holiday spirit. Anyone who receives a parking ticket in the town can opt to pay the fine through the “Scrooge The Ticket” program by donating a toy, gift card or non-perishable food item instead of the cash.
