Boatloads of charity support at Barrie Festival

The Barrie Dragon Boat Festival was launched in 2003 and will celebrate their 15th Anniversary alongside the nation’s 150th birthday. The event is run by the Barrie Public Library who’s Philanthropy and Community Engagement Manager, Matt Mueller explains this year’s theme. “We’re really incorporating Canada’s 150th into this years’ festival,” he says with lots of Canadian themed things like the Spirit Award they give out every year. Youth before and after foster care

Last summer, Simcoe-Muskoka Family Connexions (SMFC) stressed the need for specialized foster homes in local communities. Their goal was to match more children in need with placement families located close to their home communities. The low number of approved foster homes across the entire county often meant the children would have to leave their communities. This includes their school districts, extended family and friends who could be a source of comfort and stability during their difficult time. Barrie Teen Raising Money And Awareness For Youth Mental Health

Zach Hofer, a 13-year-old from Barrie, is gearing up for a 410-kilometre road journey from his home town to Ottawa to raise money and awareness for mental health affecting youths. And so far he has people ready to join him on his journey and potentially a meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Hofer, whose ambitious project has been called Zach Makes Tracks, will run, walk, bike or scooter 25 kilometres a day, roughly the equivalent of a half marathon. Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation congratulates the Nottawasaga Foundation for reaching a 25-year milestone. The Nottawasaga Foundation works tirelessly to raise vital funds for Stevenson Memorial Hospital and other local charities. Life’s lessons

No one taught Dalyce Hutchinson how to retire.  But after teaching kindergarten to hundreds of students over thirty-six joyous years, the adored Simcoe Country District School Board (SCDSB) teacher decided this spring to pursue the subject, unequivocal that the time was right to leave the profession which began for her with encouragement from a celebrated Canadian. Although her last official day at W.R.
