Netflix series raises concern for school board

The Netflix series 13 Reasons Why has been the centre of much attention, due to its fictional account of one teen’s suicide and the factors leading to it. The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) has advised staff that they are not to use the series as a teaching tool. This decision is based upon the advice of mental health professionals from across the province, who have stated that the material is graphic and potentially triggering for vulnerable young people. Terry Fox Elementary School event features student artwork for sale

On May 10 and 11, the public is invited to attend Terry Fox Elementary School’s 12th annual Art Show and Sale. The Art Show and Sale will showcase the talents and creativity of young artists from kindergarten to grade 8.  Paintings, sculptures, pencil sketches, prints and more will be available to purchase for $5.  All proceeds from the event will go directly back into the various arts programs within the school. Farm tour offers food learning experiences 

Haanview Farms, community partners, and Sheldon Creek Dairy will host a free day on the farm, June 17. It will be a celebration of local food and education on agriculture for the family to enjoy Father’s Day weekend. The farm is already a popular tourist attraction and place to visit in the summer with farm store samplings every weekend.
