Canada 150 celebrations are not over just yet. Two local businesses have joined forces to donate more than $1 million, countrywide, to community-based organizations and the Simcoe-Muskoka YMCA got to commemorate our nation’s sesquicentennial one more time when they received a donation of $1o,000.

The mandate of the Gore Mutual Foundation and Howard Noble Insurance Brokers campaign was to help improve communities in 150 ways. In Simcoe-Muskoka, that means increased financial support for local children, adults and seniors to participate in programs supporting a healthy and active in lifestyle.

Last year alone, the local YMCA issued more than $1 million in financial aid to 15,000 children, youth, adults and seniors in providing access to their programs. Those include leadership children, youth and family summer camps,  licensed child care, leadership training and swimming lessons.

YMCA CEO Rob Armstrong stressed the impact of donations, like this one, to their organization.

“Financial commitments of this kind allow the Y to continue to positively impact community health and well being and deliver programs to everyone, regardless of age, gender, race, religion or ability to pay,” he said.
