Adams a semi-finalist in KDDP racing program.

When Kendra Adams was just 13 years old, she received a race car as Christmas gift from her parents. Five years later, she’s laying the rubber down on a solid start to her racing career. The 18-year-old Innisfil native has been named one of 21 semi-finalists in the chase to represent the Kulwicki Driver Development Program (KDDP). Established in 2015 by the family of Alan Kulwicki to keep the legacy of the 1992 NASCAR Winston Cup champion alive, KDDP is a short track driver development program for pro and super late North American drivers aimed at helping young men...

Colts rally falls short

The Barrie Colts have lately had troubles reeling in the Mississauga Steelheads. Feb. 22, at the Barrie Molson Centre, was no different. Mathieu Foget recorded a goal and three assists and Michael Little scored twice and added an assist to power the Steelheads to a 7-4 win over the Colts, who have now dropped three-straight games to their Ontario Hockey League Central Division rivals. In a preview of what could be a first-round Eastern Conference playoff matchup, the visiting Steelheads (26-28-1-2) built a 5-1 lead into the second period, before the Colts (34-21-2-1) found some life. Driving to net has paid off for Colts’ Willms

Jason Willms has no interest in heading to the bakery any time soon. The only driving the second-year Barrie Colts forward is doing these days is to the front of the net and the only thing heating up is his scoring. Willms has already doubled his point totals from his rookie year and there’s still a month left in the OHL season. “I think it’s no secret I’m not the most flashiest player,” said the 19-year-old centre, who has 22 goals and 26 assists in 54 games this season, after recording 13 goals and 24 points as a rookie....

A calming influence in a time of emergency

A graduate of both the primary care and advanced care paramedic programs at Georgian College himself, Garrett Hookey admits he has a vested interest in the graduates the school produces. The advanced care Simcoe County paramedic knows the difference well trained paramedics can make when they arrive to help in time of an emergency. “The reality is that, at the end of the day, these new students are going to be the ones picking up my parents,” said Hookey, who graduated from the Georgian primary program in 2012, before returning to the Barrie campus and graduating from the advanced...
